I rented a 26 ft truck for a one way…

I rented a 26 ft truck for a one way move about 75 miles away in Denver.
Day before I picked up the truck got a phone call that my truck was damaged and they have to change the reservation to another location. Fine, picked up the truck on the mobile app pretty easy.
Loaded the truck, drove it up and unloaded. Went to drop off the truck at the location and was told when they changed the truck they also changed it to a local mice and I had to return it back where I got it 75 miles away.
I called uhaul got a very rude lady named DONNA in reservations who told me “nothing you can do” also she told me take it back or be charged hundreds of dollars. After the day I had moving she’s lucky she wasn’t telling me that to my face!
I did end up driving it all the way back down. I called uhaul the next morning got Ashley in customer service she was a gem. She was kind and caring to what happened. She made a dispute for me and apologized over and over. Two days later Adam sent me an email and refunded me half of my money. I was very satisfied. Thank you uhaul for correcting that mistake I will use you again. We rent a lot of trucks for some reason. Haha

I just completed a rental of a 15 foot…

I just completed a rental of a 15 foot moving truck from St Louis Missouri to Hibbing Minnesota. Pros and cons and since I like to end on a good note, immediately going to start with.... Well really just one con. The $100 surprise deposit that destroyed my fuel budget for the drive. I really don't think it's asking too much to inform your customers that on top of the rate fir rental of your equipment there is going to be a deposit. For me, $100. Wouldn't be a big deal if my name was Bill Gates but my name is not and upon being surprised with needing differential the last thing I needed was that extra surprise. The pros however, being able to return by mobile device and no contact was pretty awesome. The four day window they give you when I only really needed one day solved a lot of potential headaches. Although expensive I think the rate was fair. Under 50000 Mi so no problems with the truck at all, and despite not wanting it they still gave me a free upgrade to a 15-foot. All I needed was a pickup but apparently pick up and cargo vans don't do one ways. So if any U-Haul big shot is reading this, maybe you can fix that for the future..,
Either way I'm happy with my rental and I will rent again

After working for UHaul for many years…

After working for UHaul for many years and reading these reviews I have to leave my opinion on most of them-In regards to not having the truck and/or trailer when your scheduled pick up arrives as this can be due to situations out of UHauls control-for ONE- The previous renter did not return it as scheduled or TWO-the truck breaks down or needs repair (windshield cracked, check engine light) and for safety reasons it can't be rented. UHaul can not be blamed for Dealers attitudes either... if this is the case McDonalds should be out of business. UHaul also does not have repair trucks sitting on every mile marker either. That is just common sense. If your personal vehicle breaks down- how long do you have to wait for road side assistance? If a light bulb goes out-is this UHauls fault? If so- is it your fault when your tail light goes out on your personal vehicle? This is why you only get a fix it ticket if you get pulled over-as common sense is... we have no idea when they will go out. I KNOW how UHaul services their trucks and they're great about it. So next time, maybe you need to show up at your time scheduled on your reservation or at least call if you're running late. Just because you reserved a truck does not mean you can pick it up anytime that day-if you put noon- you better be there at that time or you could lose your reservation. Maybe we all need to NOT just think about us- maybe think about others also. Moving is stressful I get it-movers are waiting etc-take a deep breathe and move on as getting angry will not solve it or make it better. And PLEASE tell the truth on your reviews-from personal experience of renting UHaul's some people LIE a lot and there are notes and paper trails to prove these lies. For example One review -I had to wait 40 minutes to get my truck-fact- they showed up 30 minutes late and it took 7 minutes to get them out the door. Or this one- I had to pay for pads and a dolly I never wanted-fact-they added these items on their reservation on UHaul.com and watched them get loaded in their truck. Or this one-I was charged another day when I returned it on time. Fact-they returned it to the wrong UHaul facility. Or this one- I was charged a cleaning fee and the truck was clean-fact-chewing tobacco splattered on back of seats and dog hair everywhere. Or this one- I was charged for pads and never used them-fact- you had them and no one else could use them-so you pay for them. Best one yet- I was charged for insurance and didn't need it, can I get my money back? Response- you're joking right?

U-Box Move

I reserved a U-Box for my move from Simi Valley, CA to Nashville, TN. I picked up the U-Box for a few days to pack it and then dropped it back off at the Simi Valley location. I was told I would receive an email once my U-box shipped and an email/call once it arrived at the U-Haul location in Madison, TN. A week had passed since it should have shipped without receiving a notification. I had called the Simi location and they told me it had shipped when it was supposed to and should arrive within the next week. I let them know I didn’t receive an email that it had shipped nor had I been charged yet as I was supposed to after it had shipped. They said I’ll be charged soon and I’ll receive a call/email when it arrives in Madison.
I wait 2 more weeks with no updates. I finally decide to call the Madison location and they inform me they have had my U-Box for the last 12 days... I received no email or call to let me know this. Because it was so last minute, I had to wait till the following weekend (9 days later before I could arrange to pick it up and unload it. I called customer support and they informed my email was not entered correctly at the Simi Valley location (spelled my name wrong in the email despite my name being spelled correctly in their system under my information.
I pick up the U-Box from the Madison location, unloaded it and returned it without issue.
A week later, I receive an email stating I’ve been charged for storage of the U-Box despite already having felt with it. I called the Madison location but they placed me on a 9 minute hold. I hung up, called Customer Service, and told them what happened. The person asked to place me on hold while they contact that location to get the refund process started. They told they spoke with the manager and will email me once the refund has been processed (they corrected my email in their system at this point). Meanwhile, 4 days go by with no email or refund. I call the Madison location and the manager answers. I told him what happened and he informed me he wasn’t working the day that the Customer Service Rep called to have them process the refund and he was unaware. He told me he processed the refund and I should get an email in 5-10 minutes that the refund has been processed. It’s been an hour now with no email or pending refund to my credit card. I’m sure it will go through at some point but this whole process has been frustrating to say the least. Everyone seems to be incompetent at their jobs... the only reasons I’m not giving them 1 star is because my U-Box arrived and everything was in damaged the way I packed it. If I don’t receive my refund/notification by tomorrow, I’m giving U-Haul 2 stars instead of 3.

I had a good experience

I had a good experience. Rented a 20 ft truck for 2 days. Pick up was quick and easy, as was the drop off. It was a bit expensive would be my only negative.
Drove 385 miles round trip. Total cost of rental with safe move insurance plus tax was $450. Used about $80 in fuel. Grand total of $530

U-Haul has your back

I truly feel for the people here that have had bad experiences as moving is traumatic enough already. I must say however that my experience with U-Haul has been very good. It’s hard to call a breakdown good but things do break and when I had a trailer breakdown in the middle of nowhere they got me going in record time. This week my friend, moving across country from CA had a breakdown and U-Haul had the contents of her truck professionally unpacked an repackaged into another truck and got her on her way. It’s always better when things don’t break but when or if they do, it’s good to know that you have backup. I always recommend U-Haul to friends.

Installed hitch wiring wrong.

We had a tow hitch installed on a light truck last year sometime. Hitch is solid.

Recently I noticed our trailer lights wrong. Apparently we never checked them before. Rewired the whole trailer, still wrong. Finally traced to an incorrect wiring installation when they did the tow hitch. Somehow they flipped the brown with the yellow wires (running lights with left turn signal). They didn't bother to check their work, which is obvious because the wiring connector on the truck has 3 led's on it where you just activate a given light (turn signals / running lights) and the led turns on / blinks. Clearly labeled. Took me 5 seconds to figure it out which led was which, 30 to run back and forth and find it wired incorrectly. Easy fix. Not everyone is handy though or has the proper tools. Make sure you have them show you a successful installation or check their work.

The insurance papers were not in the…

The insurance papers were not in the truck, U-Haul says "it's OK", I say if I get stopped by the Police I get the fine and 3 points against my personal insurance. We had tight schedule for the move and was not able to cancel this booking. I suggested they refund $15 we paid for extra insurance but that was too much for them, they only made 2 billion in revenue, we don't want to put a dent in that. 2 days later they emailed me the insurance papers and the attitude was something like "you see we told you it's OK". For me it was not about $15 but to see how cheap they are.
They did call me within minutes after I made a reservation to advise me no trucks of requested size were available at location I picked, and helped me find another location, which added to km at the end as it was further. That part was good although it was to correct their crappy software that does not know what location has what size trucks. The only reason I would use them again is that there is no other option usually.

All around bad experience with customer service.

08/16/20: I made a reservation on Thursday 08/13/2020. I was told I would get a call by Friday at 5:00pm to follow up with this reservation. I got no call, I drove up to Pompano from South Miami, to be told at Value Storage that they absolutely do not have what I requested, and they have no information on the reservation. I showed them the number and his response at Value Storage was "sorry, doesn't matter, we simply do not have that size truck and you should call Uhaul" When I asked him to help me call Uhaul, he said that I would have as much luck as he would. I had to scramble to get a Uhaul truck much smaller which provided problems moving equipment and I missed the window to move equipment into a warehouse. This was an atrocious experience with Value Storage and the inability to get a call from Uhaul in advance to let me know that truck would not be there. I quickly received a cancellation on the reservation in order to not let me write a review on their page.
Update 08/18/20: The president of Uhaul called me and personally offered an apology and gave me a rather considerable credit for the experience I went through, and it shows that companies that care about customers will try their best to make things right. Many places can learn what it takes to make things right the way Uhaul did.

Thought was cheaper, but they'll charge you more than what the contract says, and they always ask u to put card on file that is so they can steal.

UHaul is a legit company that I've used many times before.
The new, updated UHaul in Fredericksburg, Va is a huge step up from the past.

It's not easy I rented almost 2years and each time, Hold Time was 30-45 mins and if you catch them in a lie, they see your number and have you on hold as stated above all truth I will never trust them with my things again! "Do not use" their service.
